Directions: From Louisville, west on US 60 to Harned, south 10 miles on KY 79.
Lake History
Factoid: At Rough River Lake many visitors enjoy seeing the historic Green Farm nearby, consisting of about 3,000 acres, a large ancestral home, an old water-powered mill and store, and a new 18-hole golf course, Lafayette Green. The original land grant was to former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Sebastian, who was a co-conspirator with Aaron Burr. George Washington, who traded it for a horse, once owned part of the land.
Happenings Around the Lake
June 22 - 22: Cardboard Boat Regatta at North Fork Recreation Area - Partipants both teams and individuals build a boat using only cardboard and duct tape. They compete against each other by paddling a course. Trophies are awarded for best of show, 1st place in two age groups, and 1st place teams.Best of show is judged and 1st place trophies are based on a time.
August 10 - 10: Dam Triathlon at Rough River State Park to Cave Creek Rec Area to Rough River Visitor Center - Event starts with registration at the Rough River Visitor Center. Participants are then directed to the Rough River State Park Beach were they begin the triathlon by paddling 6.4 miles upstream to the Cave Creek Boat Ramp, then they bike 3.6 miles to the Rough River State Park boat ramp upper parking lot, and from here they run 1.5 miles to the Rough River Lake Visitor Center. All participants receive a "I survived the Dam Triathlon" T-Shirt and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies are awarded top three times. Partners: Friends of Rough River Lake, Inc; Rough River State Park; and Rough River Businesses and Tourism.
