About the Gold Medal Award

Since 1966 The Gold Medal Award has honored excellence in parks and recreation communities throughout the United States. The award has been expanded to recognize the contributions of military recreation providers. Armed Forces Recreation communities are unique in the populations they serve including service members, their families, retirees, reservists, civilian employees and local communities.

The application process for the Armed Forces Recreation Gold Medal varies from the other Gold Medal Awards to reflect these unique aspects of military recreation programs.

This Gold Medal Award is presented by:

The American Academy of Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA)

Judging for the award is conducted by the AAPRA Gold Medal Committee members and designated reviewers.

In partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association

Musco Lighting is the award sponsor.
